Cupping

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of causing local congestion. Having said that, forms of this therapy have been used in many cultures for thousands of years.  This in itself is very telling!!

A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and localized healing takes place. This creates a negative pressure on the muscles which helps them to relax. Cupping has been found to affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing tissues to release toxins, flush the blood through the lymphatic system, clear colon blockages, help activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries, activate the skin, clear stretch marks and improve varicose veins.

What to Expect
Cupping involves the use of glass, plastic, or silicone cups to create an isolated suction on the body.  As a client, you will experience a sense of pulling in the local area where the cup has been applied.  Depending on the type and style of cups used, the practitioner may keep the cups in one place for 5-20 minutes.  Alternately, they may add an oil or cream to an area and move the cup around the body.  This feels similar to a massage treatment, but has a comfortable releasing effect.
